What Could Be a Better Gift?

We came home from work yesterday expecting to watch the CSI episode about the Star Trek-like convention with its murder and the ongoing story of the lab non-romance.

We fired up the old

A Pool in New England. How Useful!

On Facebook and elsewhere on the web there seems to be a lot of “stuff” about dreams of the future. That and the phrase “Considering The Economy…”

I feel as if it might be a good time to resurrect

During a different lifetime, I think I am up to my fourth, we lived in the middle of all the action in Manhattan.

It’s not where I started but still I feel its from where I am.

Walter puttering

Before our friend Walter and his wife Dee bought their free standing home in the nation’s capital, they lived in a town house.

Walter lover to garden.  He especially loves to garden herbs and spices to enhance his broad range of cooking skills.

This photograph was taken on a visit to his house a few years ago.  Before preparing an omelet. Walter was kind enough to harvest fresh herbs.

What a difference it made in the taste!

The End/Beginning of an Era

Saturday, November 1, 2008 — 16:08

During the 1920’s, the nation had a choice between Herbert Hoover and Al Smith.  Mr. Smith was a charismatic go-to Governor, a man of the people and well loved in his own surroundings.

He was also Catholic.

It is generally believed by historians that he lost the election based on this one condition.  Until John Kennedy, this could be called the Al Smith Effect, meaning Catholics should not bother running for President.

Now we have the Bradley Effect.  That is what is believed to have stopped Mayor Bradley from winning the Governor’s office in California.

Will this effect the results this coming Tuesday?  Yes.  The question is will it overwhelm the chances of Senator Obama from winning?  I hope to god, no.

This is not an endorsement for either candidate.  It is a plea irrelevance not be a factor when each and every voter makes that final mark, flick, tick, twist or whatever other action that will be called a vote.

VOTE!

iPhone Hysteria

In an earlier tweet I mentioned that as I have avoided drugs all these years I have also avoided apple products.
Woman on Candlestick Phone
It isn’t easy living in the geek world.  Watching people sit in line for three days for a phone, one with many bells and whistles indeed, but a phone nonetheless, reminds of the people I see standing outside of office buildings in below zero temperatures smoking.

As a disclaimer I will admit being a crackberry. It is a drug of choice thing, I believe.

Some Not-tech Grazing Tonight

When I saw the spoiler for the next season of NCIS on TV Squad, I thought this would be a good time to do a graze that didn’t involve my self centered tech interests.

The added value had to be it was of some interest to me as well. I won’t link to the NCIS spoiler because at the moment it’s more of a tease than a true spoiler. It is more like what follows a newscaster when they start the sentence: “Coming right up after this break…” and then you don’t see the item for another two or three breaks.

This link to The Mysteries of Cheers on TV Squad is of some interest. There is a link to the blog put out by the man who is credited with creating the show. Here’s a spoiler. If you visit Boston, take you picture outside the Cheer’s Bar across from the Public Gardens on Beacon. If you go inside, you may be severely disappointed.

The second TV Squad link is to this news about the SciFi series Firefly. I have the final DVD, but this is a report of a Blue Ray boxed set. I will wait till its offered in the big box store, but I will get it.

The big news here though is from SyFyPortal.com. It is an article about the upcoming Stargate Universe series. This one has spoiler warnings all over it. The “portal” website looked like its name was Battlestar Galactica Ringtones.

And finally, I was hoping to say nice things about the new online radio from the UK Radiopaq, but, trying it from a raw copy of Firefox 3.05b, I could get none of the links to open without a warning message popping up that I didn’t have this or that plug it.

Oddly enough, I have had no problem with any other online radio/plog/YouTube embedded video.
Oh, well.
